Unless you work in a local public safety branch or for the United States Department of Homeland Security, chances are you may have never heard of the Urban Shield exercise. However, for over five years, Urban Shield has been a critical operational exercise used to evaluate existing levels of preparedness and response capabilities of regional disaster first responders.
This year, FuzeBox is proud to announce that it has been selected to power the communication and collaboration between seven area operating command centers, one central command center, and one medical command for the event. Regional communication abilities are being evaluated during this exercise, as they play an integral role in the implementation of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), National Response Plan (NRP), Emergency Operations Planning, and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Management. Urban Shield incorporates personnel representing a number of emergency responders including Urban Search & Rescue (USAR), SWAT, explosive ordinance disposal units (EOD), Fire, etc.
FuzeBox, through its partnership with Verizon Wireless, will allow participants to communicate with each other across all areas of the event via audio and video using Verizon mobile devices in the field and desktop/laptop platforms at command sites. The presence of FuzeBox’s unique HD collaboration solution provides a way for instructors to verify successful exercises and provide corrective feedback to participants.

Happy Fuzing and good luck to all those involved in this weekend’s event!
